Artist Statement
In my newest collection of paintings, six large monochromatic portraits entitled (un) Self, I am playfully toying with the notion of objectivity by incorporating photo-realistic techniques that attempt to show things as they really are. Furthermore, I am interested in the issues involving portraiture in context to its historical background, depiction via representation, and the pluralities of perception. History will show my continued outlook to struggle with the notion of the ideal versus objectivity.
